Kristen D. Hardy Selected as the Wisconsin Association of African American Lawyers (WAAL) President Elect

KHardyKristen D. Hardy, Compliance Counsel at Rockwell Automation in Milwaukee, was recently elected to WAAL’s Board of Directors as the President-Elect. Beginning August 2018, Kristen will serve as the President of WAAL for a one-year term. She has been an active WAAL board member since 2014, serving as the chair of several committees in past years. In addition to WAAL, Kristen is also on the Board of Directors for the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Young Lawyers Division, as well as active on other non-profit boards throughout Wisconsin.

Huge Wells Fargo Enforcement Victory for Lawrence Brown at CFPB

lbrownLawrence Brown, an enforcement attorney at the CFPB was instrumental in securing the largest fine ever levied by the agency—$100 million—for alleged illegal practices involving account openings and bogus fees charged to account hold­ers. The CFPB alleged Wells Fargo employees, spurred by sales targets and compensation incentives, secretly opened deposit and credit-card accounts in customers’ names. The bank’s own analysis showed more than 1.5 million accounts were opened by its employees without consent of the custom­ers. Parker has been with the city attorney’s office for more than 20 years before being elected to the agency’s top post in 2012. As Oakland’s top legal counsel, Parker has focused her efforts on the city’s illegal sex trade, which includes underage youth who are exploited in the industry. Her work on ensuring access to reproductive health clinics, the city’s support of medical marijuana and the city’s anti-predatory lending ordinance are among some of the issues she has shepherded through the legal process.
